What We Clear — Fence Lines, Pasture and Bush
Most of our farm land clearing work is regrowth that crept in while you were busy farming. If it's brush, willow or small poplar, a mulcher handles it without tearing up your ground.

How Forestry Mulching and Brush Hogging Work
Forestry mulching / skid steer mulching. A mulching head on a track machine grinds standing brush and small trees where they stand and drops the material as chips. One pass, one machine — no piling, no burn pile to babysit next spring, nothing to haul. The mulch layer sits as ground cover, holds soil against wind and runoff, and breaks down into the field.
Brush hogging / brush cutting. For lighter growth — grass gone to willow, light regrowth, cleanup mowing on reverted pasture — a brush hog is faster and cheaper than a mulching head, and that's what we'll put on it.
What we don't do as standard. Stump grubbing, root raking and excavation are not part of a mulching job. If you need the roots out for a building site or a new field, say so up front and we'll quote that work separately.
The Best Time of Year to Clear
Fall, after harvest
Crops are off, the ground is firm and you can see exactly what's grown in over the season. The busiest window we run.
Winter, on frozen ground
Often the best of all. Frozen ground means the least rutting, wet spots and sloughs become workable, and nothing is in the way.
Spring, before seeding
A tight window, but the right one for fence lines and approaches you need open before the equipment starts moving.
Summer
Best for acreage building sites and yard work where field access isn't the constraint.
How Land Clearing Pricing Works
Clearing is quoted either hourly or per acre. Hourly suits messy, uneven work — fence lines, tree lines, scattered bush — where nobody can honestly predict the pace. Per acre suits open, consistent parcels where we can see what we're walking into and commit to a number.
What moves the price either way:
- Stem size — 2-inch willow and 8-inch poplar are different jobs
- Density — scattered bush versus a solid wall of regrowth
- Terrain — slopes, sloughs, rocks and soft ground all slow the machine
- Access — gates, approaches and how far the machine has to walk on site
- Distance from Grande Prairie — mobilization to get the machine to you
- Whether we haul — standard jobs leave mulch in place; removal is quoted separately

Land Clearing Questions
What's the difference between mulching and excavating?
A mulching head grinds standing brush and small trees into chips on the spot, leaving the root mat and soil intact. An excavator or dozer pushes and grubs material out, which means piles, burning or hauling and a torn-up surface that needs reclaiming. Mulching is faster and cleaner for brush, willows and regrowth; excavating is what you want when the stumps and roots have to come out for a building site.
How many acres can you clear in a day?
It depends far more on what's growing than on the acreage. Light willow and brush regrowth moves quickly; dense poplar with 6-inch stems, wet ground or tight tree lines slow the machine right down. We walk or photo-review the parcel before quoting so the estimate reflects your actual stem size, density and terrain.
Can you clear in winter?
Winter is often the best window. Frozen ground carries the machine with the least rutting, wet spots and sloughs become workable, and there's no crop or seeding schedule to work around. Deep snow is the main limit on very small stems.
Do you burn or haul the material away?
Neither, on a standard mulching job. The material is processed in place and left as a mulch layer that holds soil and breaks down over time. If you want the material removed instead, tell us up front and we'll quote hauling separately.
Do I need a permit?
Check with your County or municipality before clearing — rules differ on riparian setbacks, road right-of-ways and shelterbelts, and there may be restrictions on your parcel. Utility locates are required before any ground-disturbing work; we arrange locates on the jobs we run.
Can you do lease sites and industrial work too?
