About Clairmont

Where the Yards Are

Clairmont is a hamlet in the County of Grande Prairie No. 1, immediately north of the city. It is the industrial address for the region — laydown yards, shops, trucking operations and service companies working the Montney — with newer residential subdivisions built alongside them.

Industrial yards are a different snow job than a retail parking lot. Surfaces are often gravel or compacted base rather than pavement, the traffic is loaded trucks and trailers, and the operating window starts before dayshift. A yard that is cleared at 9 a.m. has already cost the tenant a morning.

On the residential side, the newer Clairmont subdivisions have the usual new-build issues: grading still settling, and County snow rules that do not let you push it into the ditch.

Local Challenges

What Clairmont Properties Deal With

  • Industrial yards must be open and sanded before dayshift, not by mid-morning.
  • Gravel and compacted-base yard surfaces cannot be scraped like pavement.
  • Loaded truck and trailer traffic polishes packed snow into ice fast.
  • County Community Standards Bylaw 3098 prohibits pushing cleared snow onto right-of-ways.
  • Large yards run out of stacking room and need mid-season hauling.
  • New residential lots still have grading and drainage settling to correct.

Frequently Asked Questions — Clairmont

Can you clear an industrial yard before dayshift?

Yes. Yard sites are scheduled on a pre-shift window so the gate, laydown area and truck routes are open and sanded before crews arrive.

Do you work on gravel yards?

Yes. Gravel and compacted-base surfaces get blade height managed so we move snow without stripping the surface, and traction material is applied rather than scraping to bare ground.

Where does the snow go?

Stacked on your property in a location that keeps working space and sightlines clear — not on the County right-of-way, which Bylaw 3098 prohibits. When the piles start costing you space, we haul them off site.

Do you also service Clairmont homes?

Yes. Residential driveway, approach and walkway service runs in the Clairmont subdivisions on the same routes as the yards.
