Can You Push Snow Onto the Road in Grande Prairie?

By Brenden Lidder, Owner, PWW Services Inc.

The short answer

No. City of Grande Prairie Traffic Bylaw C-1166 s. 37 bans placing snow or ice from private property onto a road or other public property, with a $100 fine. Under s. 37.1A, snow from a commercial or industrial property carries a $1,000 fine. Snow has to stay on your own lot or be hauled away.

What Bylaw C-1166 says

Section 37 says a person shall not place, or permit to be placed, snow, ice or other material removed from private property onto the highway or other public property. Section 37.1A applies the same rule to snow removed from a commercial or industrial property.

Snow placed in violation must be removed within 24 hours, or the City may remove it at the violator's expense. Section 38 says sidewalk snow may not be put on the adjacent roadway, except to the extent that moving it to private property is impractical.

Where the snow can go
